Setup Two-Way Texting – Tekmetric

Tekmetric's Tekmessage feature enables two-way texting between shops and customers using either a new local phone number or by hosting an existing landline or VOIP number (excluding wireless numbers), with setup involving signing up through Shop Settings > Integrations, selecting the phone option, and authorizing the number for texting while ensuring compliance with carrier restrictions.

Tekmetric offers an integration to make communication with customers seamless and your shop workflow simpler. Tekmessage is a feature that offers two-way texting between your shop and customers using a VOIP or landline number. This article provides instructions on how to set up Tekmessage.

Tekmessage Setup

  1. 1.Click the Shop Settings section located on the bottom left of the menu bar.
  2. 2.Click the 7th tab, Integrations.
  3. 3.Click Sign Up in the Tekmessage integration box.
  4. 4.A window will appear explaining the features of Tekmessage. Click Continue when you are done reading through the details.
  5. 5.In the next step, you can choose the following phone setup options:
    • New Local Phone Number
    • Host Existing Number

New Local Phone Number

This option allows you to select from a list of locally available phone numbers. You will select a local phone number you'd like to use to represent your shop when texting customers.

Host Existing Number

This option allows you to select your existing shop number by making it available for texting.

  1. 1.Enter the phone number you would like to host, then click Next.
    • You can use your landline. Only the texting portion is hosted; phone calls are not affected.
    • It is recommended not to use a wireless number such as a Verizon number, as this will prevent messages from being sent.
  2. 2.Sign a letter of authorization. Be sure to include your shop name under "Subscriber" and also include your name and title. Afterwards, check the box stating you agree and authorize your number to be hosted.
  3. 3.Re-type your shop phone number for confirmation, then click Complete Setup.

Note: Phone carriers do not allow mobile phone numbers to be hosted.

Important Notes

  • You can use a voice over IP number (VOIP), as long as the provider does not have it set up as a "wireless" number on the back end.
  • Wireless numbers are not supported due to policy changes with phone carriers (this includes Verizon).
  • You cannot delete messages—be aware of what you send to your customers.
  • Everyone in the shop has access to view messages.
  • If you are using your business phone number with any third-party services and want to use Tekmessage, the phone number will be hosted by Tekmetric and you will need to find a different phone number to use with those third parties.
